सेंटर फॉर डेव्हलपमेंट ऑफ अॅडव्हान्स्ड कॉम्प्युटिंग (C-DAC) ही इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स आणि माहिती तंत्रज्ञान मंत्रालयाची (MeitY) प्रमुख R&D संस्था आहे जी IT, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स आणि संबंधित क्षेत्रांमध्ये R&D करण्यासाठी आहे. C-DAC ची विविध क्षेत्रे वेगवेगळ्या वेळी उगम पावली होती, त्यापैकी अनेक संधींच्या ओळखीमुळे बाहेर आले.
- 1988 मध्ये C-DAC ची स्थापना यूएसएने सुपर कॉम्प्युटर आयात करण्यास नकार दिल्याच्या संदर्भात सुपर कॉम्प्युटर्स तयार करण्यासाठी होती. तेव्हापासून C-DAC 1988 मध्ये PARAM पासून 1 GF सह सुपर कॉम्प्युटरच्या अनेक पिढ्या तयार करण्याचे काम करत आहे.
- जवळजवळ त्याच वेळी, C-DAC ने GIST गट (ग्राफिक्स आणि इंटेलिजन्स आधारित स्क्रिप्ट टेक्नॉलॉजी) स्थापन करून भारतीय भाषा संगणन उपाय तयार करण्यास सुरुवात केली; 1985 मध्ये स्थापन झालेल्या नॅशनल सेंटर फॉर सॉफ्टवेअर टेक्नॉलॉजी (NCST) ने त्याच काळात भारतीय भाषा संगणनातही काम सुरू केले होते.
- इलेक्ट्रॉनिक रिसर्च अँड डेव्हलपमेंट सेंटर ऑफ इंडिया (ER&DCI) विविध घटकांसह विविध राज्य इलेक्ट्रॉनिक कॉर्पोरेशनच्या अनुषंगिक संस्था म्हणून सुरू होणारे, सुमारे 1988 मध्ये इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स आणि दूरसंचार विभाग (आता MeitY) च्या ताब्यात आणले गेले होते. ते विविध पैलूंवर लक्ष केंद्रित करत होते. लागू इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स, तंत्रज्ञान आणि अनुप्रयोग.
- C-DAC मध्ये स्थापन झालेल्या क्रिएटिव्ह इकोसिस्टमचा परिणाम म्हणून कालांतराने, हेल्थ इन्फॉर्मेटिक्स इ. सारखी अधिक क्षेत्रे निर्माण झाली; सुरुवातीपासूनच एनसीएसटीचे लक्ष सॉफ्टवेअर तंत्रज्ञानावर होते; त्याचप्रमाणे C-DAC ने 1994 मध्ये आपले शिक्षण आणि प्रशिक्षण उपक्रम काळाच्या ओघात एक स्पिन-ऑफ म्हणून सुरू केले आणि शाळा पूर्ण करण्यासाठी भारतीय उद्योगाच्या वाढत्या गरजा पूर्ण करण्याच्या मोठ्या प्रयत्नांमध्ये वाढ झाली.
C-DAC आज देशातील IT&E (माहिती तंत्रज्ञान आणि इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स) मधील एक प्रमुख R&D संस्था म्हणून उदयास आली आहे जी क्षेत्रातील जागतिक घडामोडींच्या संदर्भात राष्ट्रीय तांत्रिक क्षमता बळकट करण्यासाठी आणि निवडलेल्या पायाभूत क्षेत्रांमध्ये बाजारपेठेतील बदलांना प्रतिसाद देण्यावर काम करते. त्या प्रक्रियेत, C-DAC हे देशाचे धोरण आणि माहिती तंत्रज्ञानातील व्यावहारिक हस्तक्षेप आणि पुढाकार लक्षात घेण्यासाठी MeitY सोबत काम करत असलेल्या एका अद्वितीय पैलूचे प्रतिनिधित्व करते. उच्च श्रेणीतील संशोधन आणि विकास (R&D) साठी एक संस्था म्हणून, C-DAC माहिती तंत्रज्ञान (IT) क्रांतीमध्ये आघाडीवर आहे, सतत उदयोन्मुख/सक्षम तंत्रज्ञानामध्ये क्षमता निर्माण करत आहे आणि नवनवीन आणि तिच्या कौशल्याचा फायदा घेत आहे.
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is the premier R&D organization of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for carrying out R&D in IT, Electronics and associated areas. Different areas of C-DAC had originated at different times, many of which came out as a result of the identification of opportunities.
- The setting up of C-DAC in 1988 itself was to build Supercomputers in the context of the denial of import of Supercomputers by the USA. Since then C-DAC has been undertaking the building of multiple generations of supercomputers starting from PARAM with 1 GF in 1988.
- Almost at the same time, C-DAC started building Indian Language Computing Solutions with the setting up of the GIST group (Graphics and Intelligence based Script Technology); National Centre for Software Technology (NCST) set up in 1985 had also initiated work in Indian Language Computing around the same period.
- Electronic Research and Development Centre of India (ER&DCI) with various constituents starting as adjunct entities of various State Electronic Corporations, had been brought under the hold of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (now MeitY) in around 1988. They were focusing on various aspects of applied electronics, technology, and applications.
- With the passage of time as a result of the creative ecosystem that got set up in C-DAC, more areas such as Health Informatics, etc., got created; while right from the beginning the focus of NCST was on Software Technologies; similarly C-DAC started its education & training activities in 1994 as a spin-off with the passage of time, it grew to a large effort to meet the growing needs of Indian Industry for finishing schools.
C-DAC has today emerged as a premier R&D organization in IT&E (Information Technologies and Electronics) in the country working on strengthening national technological capabilities in the context of global developments in the field and responding to change in the market need in selected foundation areas. In that process, C-DAC represents a unique facet working in close junction with MeitY to realize the nation’s policy and pragmatic interventions and initiatives in Information Technology. As an institution for high-end Research and Development (R&D), C-DAC has been at the forefront of the Information Technology (IT) revolution, constantly building capacities in emerging/enabling technologies and innovating and leveraging its expertise, caliber, and skill sets to develop and deploy IT products and solutions for different sectors of the economy, as per the mandate of its parent, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and other stakeholders including funding agencies, collaborators, users, and the market-place.
